Category: Language Training | 2018-03-22
One of the biggest challenges in modern life is finding enough time to do the things we want to do. Everyone is “go, go, go” all the time, and when the day is done, it can be difficult to motivate yourself to start something else after work. Well, lucky for you, it’s possible to learn English at work (outside of your Business English class, of course)!
Here are some tips and tricks to help you improve your English throughout the workday, so you can speak faster and more fluently.

1. Read an Article a Day
If you’re very busy, you might think that you don’t have time to do any extra reading. However, studies show that if you read about a topic in your field for an hour a day, you can become an expert within 7 years. Why not improve your English at the same time?
Try to read one article a day about your field in English on the commute to work (if you take public transportation), on your lunch break, or during short breaks throughout the day. You’ll broaden your knowledge about your job, and improve your English at the same time! What could be better than that?
2. Practice Your Writing
When an email in English comes in during the workday, it can be easy to just shoot off a reply and not worry too much about your grammar or vocabulary. However, as the old adage goes, “practice makes perfect.” Take a step back and practice your writing.
It can help you organize your thoughts, and even help improve your English writing skills, if you write a draft of your email first. Then look over it, edit it, and look up any words you might not know. Taking the time to review your communication will improve your writing and language skills, and may even help you get your point across better.
3. Talk to Your Coworkers
This is one of my top pieces of advice for my students when they are learning English. Find a coworker who you know speaks English, and try to have one 15-minute conversation with them per day. It will help both of you improve of your speaking skills!
4. Attend Class whenever Possible
It may seem like a no-brainer, but attending your English class at work is the best way to improve your English. If you don’t go to class, you won’t be getting all those benefits that only come with a physical class. Your teacher can help improve your pronunciation, writing, grammar, speaking, reading, and so much more. Plus, learning from a native English speaker is one of the biggest benefits you can have.
